- Limbus Company
- First appearance
- Leviathan, Prologue: Selva Oscura
Personality
Jaded, blunt and sharp-tongued, he treats the Sinners like unruly children and will threaten or use violence to discipline them. The cold front is partly a shield against losing people again, after losing his Office and the orphanage children to the Ring. He is soft toward Charon, plays down his Color title, and carries heavy guilt over his past work.
Story (spoilers)
In Leviathan, Vergilius killed Charon's father, a Syndicate boss, during a contract and placed his daughter Lapis in an orphanage, where he often visited. He lost his Office and the orphanage children to the Ring, which kidnapped Lapis and overwrote her personality with an Identity called Charon. He found her in the Ring's laboratory and took responsibility for her. When Faust offered a deal, he agreed to guide Limbus Company so the group would help him get Lapis and Garnet back. As guide he stays out of missions and fights only if Dante is in danger. In Canto IX he faces Valencina and Lucio while Charon is held hostage.
